CONTRACTING CHRISTMAS

Writers: Zander Schaus & David Martinez

Logline

A cutthroat business woman is forced to head back to her hometown during Christmas to get her ex-boyfriend to sign a contract which will ultimately turn the adorable mountain town into track housing and strip malls.

Synopsis

Christmas is just around the corner and Corrina seems to have it all figured out: beauty, brains and a penthouse apartment in the city. She's climbing the ranks at her land development firm and on the brink of making partner, but to seal the deal she has one last assignment to complete, proving her loyalty to the big boss Mr. Gogh.

Corrina is charged with returning to her idyllic hometown of Middleton, Colorado to convince one person to sign a contract- ensuring the demolition of the town. She must put aside her memories of Middleton and forge ahead to earn her spot on top at Gogh Industries.

As if this task wasn’t daunting enough, the lone hold-out is Tim, a charming vestige of her past just like the knick knack shop he owns. Tim is not only the last signature she needs but he’s also her ex-boyfriend.

Corinna stays at a cozy, snow capped cottage while on the job. This bed and breakfast, nestled in the snowy mountains, feels very different from her sleek high rise, two bedroom back in the city. The proprietor, Millie, is a familiar face, bringing Corrina back to her childhood in Middleton. She’s home, but she just doesn’t know it yet.

Back at the office Corrina’s arch nemesis, Annabelle, is also ` to make partner. She will do anything to bump Corrina out of the running.

The town is jingling with holiday spirit. The beautiful decorations and trimmed trees are right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Tim invites Corrina to join him for a bite at the local diner from their youth, which eventually turns into a stroll through main street and ice skating in the park. A perfect day. How did she let this man go?

A battle rages in Corrina's heart. She needs this contract signed. She wants the promotion. But she also loves this town. And maybe Tim. Who is engaged to be married.

Impatient and behind schedule, Mr. Gogh and Annabelle arrive to apply some pressure. Corrina finds herself caught in a classic conundrum between her future at the company, the future of this perfect town and her future with the one that got away. The fate of the entire town rests on her next move.

What makes it different:

On the surface, Contracting Christmas will feel very familiar. The evil land developer. The girl is sent back to her small hometown to get a deal done, falling in love with her high school sweetheart along the way. But just below that thin line of cliche and familiarity Contracting Christmas gently pokes fun at the genre. It’s not a Hallmark spoof, but the leading man is named MARK HALL. Cliches like ice skating are scoffed at in lieu of roller skating. A magical Christmas miracle with sparkles begins, only to hear, “that’d be pretty amazing if things like that existed.” Astute film watchers, especially those of this genre will see this added layer of tongue in cheek skewering in Contracting Christmas as a fresh new, hilarious Christmas classic.
